Or
“Don’t Bite Your Elbows.”
Kubat’ Sebe Lokti means just that. It is a Russian phrase and it could also be translated as saying not to get your undies in a bunch over things you can’t control. Acting on Anger is like trying to bite your elbows. We try to control things that are beyond our reach.
When I ask people what it is that really pissed them off, their answers often start off with “People that….” or “When people ….”
So, what’s wrong with that anyway? Other people are always doing things we don’t like, aren’t they? Yup. they are.
And that’s the way it is. It doesn’t mean that you have to like what they do, but does it make sense to expend valuable emotions, to stomp your feet, or pound on a table, or punch a wall?
If your experience is anything like mine, you may realize that people don’t change because I want them to do so. And it doesn’t matter how much energy I spend in anger, rage, or destructive actions, they are going to continue to do things that I don’t like. Or you don’t like.
I only have a limited amount of energy. Doesn’t it make more sense in spending it on living my life the way I want to rather than trying to control the world?
Food for thought.
